Love Yourself to Stay Healthy

The science of energy teaches us that our organs and other physiological systems sense and stores emotions. The immune system’s intelligence observes feeling we have about ourselves and can improve its health when we develop an authentic feeling of self-love. It seems that thinking well of ourselves may protect both the heart and immune system. Many studies say that our self-esteem functions very much like our emotional immune system. 


When we are disappointed in ourselves or react emotionally to the negative things that others say to us, we weaken our immune systems and hold onto toxins. Lack of self-love can make us more vulnerable to anxiety and stress, release more cortisol into the bloodstream. When this condition becomes chronic and stays for a longer period, the brain goes into fight or flight mode and hence your immune system ability to fight against any virus or bacteria will be suppressed. 


Studies published in the journal of clinical psychological science states that people who heard loving and positive messages about themselves had low heart rates and was in a state of relaxations which lead them into many healing processes. On top of the physical benefits, they also reported feeling more compassionate towards themselves and connected to others. In contrast, those who heard negative critics about themselves had a raised heart rate and sweated more, showing signs of feeling threatened and distressed. 


To some degree, all of us need to work on experiencing self-love to maintain or improve our health. Practising self-compassion exercise consciously will force you to substitute your automatic self-critical perspectives with ones that are more positive affirmations and statements. When this positive affirmation is done regularly at least 3 times a day with physical movement, like saying it aloud, writing it down or by doing some sort of action relating to your affirmation, it will activate a different part of your brain that will induce happy hormones to be secreted, heart rate to slow and strengthen your immune system. 


This is a great method to unstick you from low self-esteem and make you more compassionate, and healthy.
