“Both our first and last love is self-love.” 

Self-love is empathetic and understanding of flaws and appreciative of the good within each of us. Self-love is not only important but necessary for positive emotional health and various facets of success. For many, self-love is taking a Me-time, going for a massage, getting a pedicure, manicure done, or watching Netflix. Now, all those are good, but for me, those are self-care practices. Self-care is all about comfort, and self-love is all about discomfort. True self-love is when you go within and focus on your heart and be grateful. 


Why should you focus on your heart?

If you are like many people your mind controls much of your life, despite any intuitive nudging you might receive from your heart. Time and again, your heart may try and intervene, to offer advice – but quite often the mind overrides that advice. In today’s world, many people are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and burnt out. This is mainly because we tend to live in our brains for a long time that we literally become disconnected from our hearts and body. Our brain is structured to work to protect us and doesn’t like unexpected change. The mind dictates your actions, reactions, and decisions, based largely on previously learned response patterns. And this might show up in relationships that falter because you’ve “been there before and don’t want to be hurt again,” Or it might be in how you habitually respond to stressful situations with intense anger, despite knowing in your heart that your behaviour is destructive to you and the people around you. 

According to research studies done for many years, it turns out that one of the most effective ways to reduce stress, and burnout is to learn how to access the intelligence of the heart and shift the rhythm of the heart, which sends different neural messages to the brain. Your heart is more than a blood-pumping machine. Most of us have been taught in school that the heart is constantly responding to "orders" sent by the brain in the form of neural signals. However, it is not as commonly known that the heart actually sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart! Through research studies, we know that our heart has its own brain cells, own mind, own emotions, and it can function independently from the brain. The quality of signals that our heart sends to our brain has profound effects on how our brain works. We got to learn how to get into alignment between the heart and brain to come out of stress. This is where coherence comes in, that’s when the heart, mind, and emotions work harmoniously. A Pharmacologist, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Resilience Heart-Brain Coherence Mentor, and Medical Intuitive by heart, Kiru Kishokumar has helped and empowered countless people to combine their intellect and intuition to improve their overall health, their relationships, boost their self-confidence and manifest the life of their dreams.

Kiru Kishokumar asserts that we are keepers of an innate intuitive intelligence so perceptive that it can tell us how to heal and prevent illness. In other words, she believes that our body has its own intelligence to protect itself. In the Western world, we’ve become conditioned to focus on our physical bodies. You’re told what to eat, how to exercise, and how to avoid illness and disease. Yet there is no guidance on how to look after your energetic side. Intuition and spirituality are the very aspects of our wisdom usually disenfranchised from traditional health care.

Growing up I had always been connected to dance; art and music runs through my veins and always has been ever since I can remember. Expressing myself has always been done through other forms of art and music, but one that has always held a special place in my heart is dance. dancing pushes, you to be very present, it helps to increase self-esteem by keeping you grounded and flowing along with life, letting go of the stress and worries of the past or future. 

Dance improves how we feel as a result of the following mechanisms and pathways in the human body and even changes the makeup of the brain (Karkou et al., 2017).
